Gary M. Gartsman, M.D., is noted for shoulder surgery and arthroscopy, as well as for teaching, research, and publishing in the shoulder and arthroscopy subspecialty of orthopedic medicine.

Dr. Gartsman has active staff appointments at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and The Methodist Hospital.


Dr. Gartsman serves on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine as Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Gartsman has over 100 academic productions to his credit: professional papers, book chapters on orthopedics, meeting and symposium presentations, and audiovisual productions aimed at physician and patient education. He is co-author of a textbook on shoulder surgery entitled Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery and Related Procedures.

Dr. Gartsman reviews scientific articles for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Clinical Orthopedics & Related Research, the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

A native of Los Angeles, California, Dr. Gartsman received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his Medical Doctorate from the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and his orthopedic surgery residency at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
