James B. Bennett, M.D., a specialist in the hand and upper extremity subspecialty of orthopedic surgery and microsurgery, is a recognized surgeon, product designer, teacher, and publisher of many articles and book chapters, as well as a driving force in the advancement of orthopedic surgery in South America.

In addition to active staff appointments at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, and Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Dr. Bennett is a member of the courtesy staff at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and Diagnostic Center Hospital , and the consulting staff of Texas Children's Hospital.

Dr. Bennett has participated in over 150 presentations of his work, and has written 40 published medical articles and 20 book chapters in his specialty. He is responsible for the design of the Bennett Arm Elevator/Sling and the Shoulder Abduction Pillow.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Bennett received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Oklahoma. He continued his studies at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he received his Medical Doctorate. He completed his general surgical internship at Baylor University School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, and his orthopedic surgery residency at Upstate Medical Center of New York at Syracuse . He was awarded the Surgery of the Hand Fellowship at the Hand Surgery Centers of Europe, a traveling fellowship under Dr. Harold Kleinert of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Bennett received his M.B.A. from the University of Houston .
