Razvan Scobercea, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopy. His special interests are in treating injuries of the knee, shoulder, and elbow using both arthroscopic and open techniques.
Dr. Scobercea grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois-Chicago where he was admitted into the Guaranteed Professional Program in Medicine. Dr. Scobercea graduated with highest distinction with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He then received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Dr. Scobercea completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He was selected by his peers and faculty to receive the Bronze Hammer Award for Orthopedic Excellence as the outstanding resident of his class. The award allowed Dr. Scobercea to spend time in Nice, France during the final year of residency training with world-renowned shoulder surgeon Pascal Boileau. There he learned the latest techniques in shoulder arthroscopy and reconstruction. After residency, he went on to sub-specialize in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the OASIS Sports Medicine Fellowship program in San Diego, California.
During his training, Dr. Scobercea has cared for athletes at all levels of competition from high school to the professional level. He has served as an assistant team physician for the San Diego Chargers, USA Rugby, X Games, OMBAC Club Rugby, Point Loma Nazarene University, and Mira Mesa High School.
Dr. Scobercea strives to educate patients about their condition and the available treatment options so they can make the best possible decision. He believes in customizing care to meet the unique needs of each patient, from high level athlete to the weekend warrior.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a board-eligible candidate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Scobercea is licensed to practice in Texas, and maintains privileges at Kingwood Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Surgical Hospital and Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital.
In his spare time he enjoys travel, golf, exercise, and spending time with family and friends.
