Hussein A. Elkousy, M.D., specializes in sports medicine. His particular interests are in knee and shoulder injuries treated both arthroscopically and with open procedures.

Dr. Elkousy grew up in the rural town of Chillicothe in southern Ohio. In 1991, he graduated with distinction and Summa Cum Laude from Duke University with a B.S. in Biology, and received the Edward C. Horn Award for Excellence in Zoology. Dr. Elkousy also attended Duke University Medical School and graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He was honored by his class with the Ideal Physician Award in 1995. He remained at Duke University for two years of General Surgery training before completing his Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at Duke University in 2001 as co-winner of the Duke Orthopaedic Surgery Annual Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Research. Following residency, Dr. Elkousy completed a one-year Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Elkousy is the team physician for Texas Southern University, and a consulting physician for the Houston Rockets. He has previously been the Team Physician for the Houston Rockets. He has worked with several sports teams and served as an assistant team physician for several Duke University and University of Pittsburgh varsity sports teams, including football, basketball, and soccer.

Dr. Elkousy has over 30 presentations and publications to his credit, and several papers pending publication.

Dr. Elkousy holds staff appointments at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital-Roger Clemens Institute, The Methodist Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospital.

In addition to his Texas medical licensure, Dr. Elkousy is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Orthopaedic and has a Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
