Barrett S. Brown, M.D. specializes in sports medicine, shoulder surgery and general orthopedic surgery.

Originally from Sherman, Texas, and valedictorian of his high school class, Dr. Brown graduated Cum Laude and with Distinction from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. He then received his Medical Doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Brown completed his orthopedic surgery internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Following residency, Dr. Brown completed a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, New York. During his fellowship, HSS was the top-ranked Orthopedic Surgery Department in the country, according to U.S. News and World Report. He also served as Senior Clinical Associate in Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Medical College at Cornell University until July 2007. During his fellowship, Dr. Brown gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of overhead athletes while serving as Assistant Team Physician for the New York Mets. He treated high level athletes with ailments of all major joints - knee, hip, shoulder, elbow and ankle.

Dr. Brown has authored numerous publications and given presentations to both national and international audiences. His most recent works include book chapter sections on Shoulder Arthroscopy for Throwers' Shoulder and the Proximal Biceps and clinical follow-up of patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He continues to participate in ongoing research and is a member of the following societies:

  • American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Candidate)
  • American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (Candidate)
  • Arthroscopy Association of North America (Associate)
Dr. Brown holds staff privileges at Texas Orthopedic Hospital, Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, the Memorial Hermann Katy Surgery Center, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center, and The Methodist Hospital.

In addition to his Texas and New York medical licenses, Dr. Brown is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
