Charles E. Baker, M.D. practices non-surgical general orthopedics.

Dr. Baker is a native of the Houston area. He was born in Baytown, Texas and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School.

He enrolled in Texas A&M University and after completing three academic years in two calendar years, he was admitted to Baylor University College of Medicine. He received his Medical Doctorate from that institution. After medical school graduation Dr. Baker was awarded his Bachelor's of Science Degree (Zoology) from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Baker joined the United States Air Force prior to his senior year in medical school. After graduation he completed a General Rotating Internship at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver, Colorado. During his internship, he developed an intense interest in orthopedic surgery.

He was assigned to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida, and was stationed there for three years. Dr. Baker also attended the School of Aviation Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and qualified as a flight surgeon.

After discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Houston and completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency training program at Hermann Hospital and the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children (now the University of Texas Medical School - Houston program).

Dr. Baker has had a long interest in total joint replacement (hips and knees), and in sports medicine. He was chosen as Orthopedic Consultant to the Athletic Department of Texas A&M University and served in that capacity for seventeen years. He was also Team Physician for the Houston Apollos (Houston's first professional hockey team) for their time in Houston. He served as Consultant to the Houston Baptist University gymnastics team in their early years. When the San Diego Rockets professional basketball franchise was purchased by a group of businessmen and relocated to Houston Dr. Baker was chosen to be Medical Director and Team Physician, and held that position for twenty-three years. Also when the Houston Aeros professional hockey team was revived, he was appointed Medical Director and Team Physician and served six years. Dr. Baker also maintained an active interest in Houston Independent School District sports programs. He served two terms as President of The Society of Physicians of the National Basketball Association and also served two terms as President of the International Hockey League Medical Association.

In addition to being licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas, he is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
