Gregory W. Stocks, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Stocks performs minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery to facilitate rapid recovery. Dr. Stocks performs arthroscopic hip surgery and partial knee replacements for appropriate patients. He has a special interest in hip resurfacing, treatment of young adults with premature arthritis, hip dysplasia, avascular necrosis, hip pain due to impingement and labral tears and failure of previous artificial knee joint replacement surgery.


Dr. Stocks maintains staff privileges at Texas Orthopedic Hospital and The Methodist Hospital. Before he was asked to join Fondren Orthopedic Group L.L.P., Dr. Stocks was an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), where he served as Director of the Joint Implant and Arthritis Center and Residency Program Director at TTUHSC from 1994-1999.

Dr. Stocks graduated from Memorial High School in Houston. He attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. During that time, he also studied at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He returned to Houston to Baylor College of Medicine, where he received his Medical Doctorate. He completed his Internship and Orthopedic Residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.


Dr. Stocks was awarded a Joint Replacement and Research Fellowship in London, England. In addition, he was awarded a fellowship in Major Joint Reconstruction at the University of San Diego. He was also awarded a fellowship in Ilizarov's methods of bone lengthening and deformity correction in Lecco, Italy.

Dr. Stocks holds a patent (U.S. 6,432,141) for a hip replacement prosthesis designed to improve the longevity of an artificial hip. Since joining Fondren Orthopedic Group L.L.P. in 1999, Dr. Stocks has been asked to lecture on hip arthroscopy and hip and knee replacement surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, UT Houston Medical School, UTMB Department of Orthopedics in Galveston and The Methodist Hospital Orthopaedic Department. He has contributed to orthopaedic literature by authoring many scientific articles and book chapters.
