A. Brant Lipscomb, M.D., is noted for his work in sports medicine and surgery of the knee.

Dr. Lipscomb was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. He attended Montgomery Bell Academy, where he was All-City in football; most valuable player on his high school baseball team. In addition, he received the William P. Lawrence award for scholar-athlete from the National Football Foundation.

While attending Vanderbilt University, he lettered on the baseball team which won the SEC Championship in 1993.

He subsequently graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt School of Medicine. Dr. Lipscomb was then awarded a fellowship from Baylor College of Medicine in Sports Medicine and Surgery of the Knee.

While practicing in Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Lipscomb held the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Vanderbilt School of Medicine, and was the team physician for Tennessee State University. He also worked with the Minor League Baseball teams, Nashville Sounds, and Nashville Express, as their team physician.

In 1994, Dr. Lipscomb opened the Fondren Orthopedic Group’s office in The Woodlands, Texas, practicing at Memorial Hospital. He served as Chief of Surgery and was elected as Medical Staff President from 2003-2005. He also serves as team physician to The Woodlands High School, and cares for professional and amateur athletes.

In addition, Dr. Lipscomb has several academic publications to his credit, including originally-generated professional papers and presentations. In 2002, he received the Hughston Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, a clinical research paper on the success of various anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. He also serves as a reviewer for Arthroscopy, an orthopedic sports medicine related journal. Dr. Lipscomb has served on several committees for both the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine as well as Arthroscopy Association of North America.
