Nail Bed Injuries
Crush injuries to the tip of the finger can occur when accidentally closed in a car door or when a heavy weight drops on the finger. These injuries are painful, can result in fracture of the bone, and can cause permanent deformity of the nail plate. The nail bed that grows the nail plate is lacerated and torn with the crush injury. Proper repair of the nail bed is necessary to minimize deformity of the nail plate.
Our hand surgeons are skilled with microsurgical techniques to precisely repair the nail bed for the best outcomes. Correct repair early is important to avoid splitting of the nail, nonadherence of the nail, or hook deformity.
