About Your Doctor
Dr. Joshua A. Russell is a Texas-born and raised board-certified orthopedic sports surgeon with Fondren Orthopedic Group. He developed a passion for orthopedic surgery during his time as a football letterman and Verizon scholar athlete at Texas A&M University. After graduating from medical school, he pursued a general surgery internship at the esteemed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Russell then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at West Virginia University. To enhance his expertise in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, he opted for an additional fellowship year at Baylor University in Houston and the Burkhart Research Institute for Orthopedics in San Antonio. During his fellowship, he had the privilege of caring for veterans, members of the Texas A&M University football team, the Houston SaberCats professional rugby team, and the San Antonio Missions Minor League Baseball team. He was also honored to serve as team doctor for Episcopal High School in Houston, where he witnesses the football team’s triumphant victory in the 2019 SPC Championship.
Dr. Russell’s career began in Longview, where he dedicated five years to growing his practice and becoming a prominent figure in sports medicine care within the underserved east Texas community. He provided sideline coverage and next-day care for numerous local high school athletes and served as the medical director for East Texas Baptist University. His passion continues to grow in caring for athletes and former athletes of all ages.
Dr. Russell and his wife, Ashley, both Aggies, share a love for their children, Peyton and Jackson, and their newest addition, baby Emma. Together, they have been pursuing Dr. Russell’s dream of orthopedic surgery across the country. Now, they are thrilled to be back in Houston, where he can continue to care for the next generation of athletes and their families.
